The Art of the Pendulum

By Nicole C. Carey

On my own consciousness path, I’m constantly asking questions to try and figure out if what I am doing is right for me. If I can only do one thing to move my spiritual development forward, what should it be? Is my meditation working?  Is this person a “real” healer or is their advice accurate? As an intuitive studies student, I have learned the art of the pendulum to receive Source validation. It has become a truly invaluable tool that literally any person can use for validating experiences, choices, or recommendations as you follow your own path.

What is a Pendulum?

In practical terms, a pendulum is a weighted object hung from a chain or cord so that it can swing freely backward and forward.  The pendulum weight is often a crystal or gemstone but doesn’t have to be. Ideally, you just need something that is symmetrical and weighted. You should use something with a metal chain that acts as a conductor, and it should also be at least 6 inches long from where your hand is holding the chain to the end of weight.

How does it work?

A pendulum responds to magnetic energy that your guide sends to it, down your arm, down the chain and then down toward the base of the pendulum. It responds to a sending of energy exterior to your physical body. Follow these best practices to get the most accurate reading.

Pendulum Best Practices

  • Pick a Pendulum. Make sure the pendulum has sufficient weight and the metal chain is long enough, about 6 inches from where your hand is holding the chain to the end of weight.

Helpful Tip: you often hear people say you must “cleanse” a pendulum and make it your own before it can be used. Nope. Not true. No need to soak it in salt water, put it under the light of the moon or bury it in soil. Pull it out and use it!

  • Position and Hold it Properly. Rest your arm and elbow fully on a hard, stable surface (no pillows or legs, or in the air). Hold the pendulum loosely between your two pincher fingers (your thumb and the finger next to it) or loosely draped over your fingers. Either hand is ok.

Next, take the opposite hand that is not holding the pendulum and cup it several inches below the base of the pendulum. It will help hold energies in place coming through your arm.

  • Relax and Be Neutral. It is helpful to make sure that you are centered and relaxed before using your pendulum. Take a few deep breaths, meditate for a minute or two, or relax or quiet your mind to be at a more neutral place.
  • Define what is YES and NO.  Take a deep breath. Look up to the right and ask what motion “yes” looks like. Do the same for “no” then ask what does “ask later” look like. The pendulum should swing in different directions.
  • Ask Simple Questions. Make sure your questions are simple, short, and clear. One thought or idea at a time.
  • Leave 30 Seconds Between Questions. Wait 30 seconds between questions to allow the energy flowing down your arm to dissipate. This ensures more accurate, clean answers.
  • Be Conscious of Your Mood and Attachment. Avoid asking questions when you’re feeling moody, grumpy, overly anxious or attached. This can impact accuracy. Wait until you feel calm. Before using your pendulum, ask if it is ok currently to ask questions on your chosen topic. If you get a no, wait on those questions.

I gratefully and enthusiastically acknowledge the teaching and guidance of Carol Collins, America’s Medium, who channels the non-physical beings known as the Jeshua Collective. I am expanding my next level communication and connection skills through their expert instruction.
